Mangochi Village and Nanchengwa Lodge

During our trip to Malawi, we spent several days at Mangochi which is a village on Lake Malawi where we stayed at Nanchengwa Lodge, right on the shore of Lake Malawi.

We went on a boat trip on and saw Bird Island which has over 150 different types of bird living on it and we went for a swim in the lake. You can see all of the tiny fish in the lake and they nibble on your feet.

We spent time at the local nursery which is run by Packson and Janepher. We took toys, colouring books and pencils for the children. We played games with the children, did some colouring with their new colouring books and pencils and helped to prepare their Phala.

We also enjoyed a Nyau dance and all of the villagers came to watch. As soon as the drums started playing, everybody came running in to the centre of the village to watch the dancers. Nyau dancers depict different people and take on the 'spirit' of their mask.
