I recently got a job at Tescos! which is a reputable supermarket. I spoke to one of my work colleagues about the projects I was doing and managed to get me a community card. Each store gets a budget to spend on charities each year, I was lucky enough to get one of these towards my project to buy stationary! I cannot express how grateful I was to get this as Tescos say

Every Little Helps
With this my lovely manager did a collection last minute for me which i also used to buy more stationary. As i was clearing the back to school aisle, other staff members asked me why I was buying a bulk of stationary and also contributed towards the stationary to take over!

Moreover, a lovely collegaue, bought many pens and pencils for me to take over to Malawi for the little kids! This was too much and I was going to break down from all the generous donations I received.

Packed all the underwear into a large bag to fit in my suitcase
I spoke to my friends about our projects we will be completing in Malawi. They all loved Project My Girl the most. All of us came from an all girls school, where we had all the facilities and
guidance on proper sanitation during puberty, which we took for granted. For other girls this is a luxury to have, so they all arranged a collection and I bought underwear for girls in Malawi!
I think it came up to a total of 73 pairs of underwear which will be used in sanitation packs which are distributed to young girls. these include underwear and reusable sanitary towels.

Tennis balls for the kids!
My amazing mummy and sister helped me clear out the storage room and we came across, LOADs of tennis balls and our baby clothing from when we was tiny! All in perfect condition! Which is something I will be taking with me. The tennis balls will be great fun for the kids to play with and that way I don’t have to throw them away (which I would hate to do) but are being utilised in an amazing cause. Now I have to look up some fun games which I could teach out in Malawi

FUNDRAISING & DONATIONS
I spoke to many friends and family about me going out to Malawi, who thought all the projects were an amazing idea. Therefore I directed them to our online donation page where our goal is £5000, to aid us in completion of these projects. I was given some offline donations in cash, which I will be taking with me to see where I feel the need the money needs to go towards. (I have a personal project I would like to complete but I will update you on that if I do end up doing it)
Here are the donations:

Harlequins FC is a Rugby Union team based in Twickenham, at Twickenham stoop. I have been working here as a retail assistant/supervisor here since 2012 on match days, rugby festivals and weekends in opening the store. The store sells a range of products such as replica kits, supporters clothing, accessories and souvenirs. My manager donated baby wear for me to take with me, which I thought was amazing! We have a lot of baby wear always which doesn’t sell, so I was given all the ‘deadstock’ which is very cute!
Thank you soo much Harlequins F C for the donation of baby wear

    Ethical Approval

Today I got the email saying that I've been granted ethical approval to carry out borehole water monitoring that we had hoped to do during our time in Malawi - very exciting

Building boreholes is hugely important for supplying villages in Malawi with water, but carrying out the testing that we plan to, will allow us to ensure that the water being used is free from contamination and safe to drink

Looking forward to keeping everyone posted with our findings!

    2 DAYS TO GO

Only a couple of days to go before we all start travelling from our different corners of the UK to Heathrow airport.

Personally, I am even more excited than I was last year to travel to Africa, especially to show the new travellers from Coventry University how wonderful Malawi is.

    Eeeeeeeeek, roll on Saturday :)
