Feeding Phala to the little ones.

At Mpemba school we got the opportunity to help prepare, cook and serve the Phala (Maize 20%/Soya 80% blend fortified with vitamins and minerals).

Some of the pictures really help to explain just how excited children are for their daily Phala :)

Children in Malawi will often not eat a single meal throughout the day, mainly due to poverty, and so concentration isn't always at its highest; 30°C+ heat with no food and limited supplies of water isn't ideal.

With the wonderful work by Mary's Meals Charity over 1million children in Malawi now get fed at least once a day through their school feeding programme, which includes the supply of nutritious Phala to schools and the supply of Phala to local community centres. This wonderful programme gives so many young children at least one, highly nutritious meal a day, which helps to keep them in school and focus on their learning.
